Tomorrow (Friday), Norwegian singer/songwriter Sondre Lerche will be coming to the radio station as part of Live Music Week. Quickly gaining success in the United States since his 2002 release of Faces Down, he is currently on tour for his newest album, Heartbeat Radio, which was released last month. Lerche is also known for composing the soundtrack to the major motion picture, “Dan In Real Life”. Be sure to listen tomorrow morning at 7 AM if you want to wake up to some lovely, jazzy tunes!

Here is a video of him performing “Good Luck” off of Heartbeat Radio at the Mod Club in Toronto last month; check out the album version, which incorporates a beautiful segment of strings.

Also, please remember to continue pledging your support for WERS by calling 617 824 8700 or by going online to WERS.org! Your help is appreciated in order to continue our non-commercial radio for your listening enjoyment!

Wilco and Blitzen Trapper

What a treat this was to find today!  While, off on their tour in Europe, a kind fan was nice enough to take a video of Blitzen Trapper and Wilco performing a rendition of Wilco’s “California Stars” in Dublin.  The song was originally written by Woody Guthrie and it appears of Mermaid Avenue, the album that Wilco recorded with Billy Bragg in 1998.  Check out this updated performance of the song below!

Here’s a great performance of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros from the Late Show with David Letterman this past Friday. They played “Home,” off their debut album Up From Below. With this video, it’s apparent that they have some great dance moves. To see what I mean, check it out below!

Monsters of Folk

By now, you’ve probably heard some buzz on the supergroup Monsters of Folk, which is comprised of Conor Oberst, Jim James, M. Ward, and Mike Mogis. What a team, huh?  They’re set to release their first album together next month and at WERS we can’t get enough of “Say Please,” the first single.  BUT, did you know that these guys have been performing together for quite a while now?  They all played a set together at Austin City Limits in 2004 as part of the Monsters of Folk tour (from which they drew their band name now a few years later).  Here’s a video of them playing a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Girl From North Country.”  Enjoy!
