WERS Album of the Month | April | Elvis Perkins In Dearland
It’s time for our WERS ALBUM OF THE MONTH!
Each month, the WERS Music Staff reviews hundreds of releases to bring you the WERS Album of the Month—our pick for the best album from an emerging artist. April’s Album of the Month is the self-titled sophomore release from Elvis Perkins in Dearland. The follow-up to his beautiful 2007 debut release, Ash Wednesday, Elvis Perkins In Dearland features unique instrumentation, a robust horn section, and dark lyrical imagery.
Listen to WERS on Tuesday, April 21st as we spend the day highlighting tracks from the album and giving away copies throughout the day! Look to WERS.ORG for exclusive Elvis Perkins In Dearland content.
Also, stay tuned as Elvis Perkins In Dearland comes to WERS for an in-studio performance on Wednesday, April 22nd at 3:30 PM. He’ll be stopping by before playing a SOLD OUT show at the Brattle Theatre that night.
Check below where you’ll be able to hear Music Director John Parsons’ exclusive interview with Elvis Perkins, plus a preview of the songs off the album.
And Hey! Here’s a great take of the kickoff track from the very album we’re celebrating. “Shampoo” for you, on WERS.org.
Local Artist Leo Blais Works With Words
Local Artist Leo Blais has a distinct edge in remembering his lyrics over your typical singer-songwriter. He has decorated his entire apartment with lyrics from The Free EP and Everyone’s Feelin’ Alone, both of which are among the most personal of endeavors from the Lowell based artist. You can see how he constructs these thoughtful pieces with this video:
Leo Blais constructs The Free EP over a weekend inside his apartment in Lowell, MA and talks about the ‘everyone’s feelin alone‘ collection that took 5 years to record and over 3 years to construct. For more information about the collection go to leoblais.com

- WERS Forever! From Singer-Songwriter Leo Blais
Be sure to check out Leo Blais tonight at 6pm on WERS’ Local Music Week 2009. For more information, please visit Leo Blais’ site and WERS.org.
