DRINKING WITH STRANGERS!

Posted in Daytime by wersmusic on December 13, 2011

Butch Walker’s memoir Drinking With Strangers: Music Lessons From A Teenage Bullet Belt has finally made its way into my hands. It was released on October 25th, 2011, a little less than two months after his latest record with The Black Widows, The Spade.

I’m going to be honest with you, I haven’t finished it yet. But so far it is just as life changing as I had always hoped it to be. Every story he tells in the memoir explains a song that he has written, explaining the mysteries we’ve always wanted to solve. It also features guest appearances by KISS, Van Halen, Pink and many many more. So check it out. Also, check out this picture of me in a Santa hat posing with the book.

You’re welcome.

(Semi) Boston Native Mieka Pauley is currently on tour.(She was born in Boston but actually raised all over the US.)  She’ll be hitting New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and more between now and the end of February. But the Boston Music Award nominee could not kick off her tour without making a few stops in her home town  first! On Thursday Pauley will be performing with Chad Perrone over at T.T The Bear’s Place in Cambridge and on Friday she’ll be in Cambridge again, only this time at Club Passim. And be sure to tune in to WERS at 11:15 AM on Thursday because she will be performing live!

City & Colour

In my honest opinion, Dallas Green is one of the greatest modern soloists and on December 2nd, he graced Boston’s House of Blues with his presence. This being said, I’ve been listening to his first full length album Sometimes on repeat for days. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see him play, but I’d like to imagine that he played my favorite song Casey’s Song. Here’s a clip from his live DVD!

El Camino drops in two days!

Posted in Daytime by wersmusic on December 4, 2011

It’s been a year and a half since the release of the Black Key’s Brothers, in May of 2010. Brothers debuted at number three on the billboard top 200, was named the second best album of 2010 by Rolling Stone magazine, contains three hit singles and is just over-all awesome. So it’s been a long year and a half that fans have spent anxiously waiting the release of the Akron-ian duo’s seventh album, El Camino.

But Black Keys fan’s only have two days left to wait. The new record drops on December 6th, 2011. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney announced the new record in a pretty unique way this time around. They placed an ad in the Akron Beacon Journal, their local newspaper, with a picture of a 1994 El Camino and underneath wrote, “Priced to sell. Grab the Keys and go! Contact Pat or Dan at 330-510-1206.” Once the number is called, Pat simply describes the car and asks the caller to leave a message. I know because I called it. On the same day they released a parody of an El Camino commercial on Youtube and announced the release date at the very end. They also created a fake website www. wannabuyavan.com.

I suggest you check it out and get ready for El Camino, because you’ve got less than forty-eight hours to wait.

A Very She & Him Christmas

Posted in Daytime by wersmusic on December 1, 2011

In case you are sick of listening to the classic christmas songs, She & Him offer a new alternative twist on some of the classic Christmas tunes. The first song on the album, “The Christmas Waltz” is an easy listen, featuring just Zooey and an acoustic guitar.  Zooey and M Ward also do a nice duet version of the song “Sleigh Ride”.  Also, they switch up the song “Silver Bells” by doing a ukelele version.  The only song I was rather disappointed with is their version of “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, they decided to do a faster version than the original.  I guess I was sort of hoping for a version featuring Will Ferrell, like they did in the Movie Elf.  But overall, its a great listen and worth checking out! So go have yourself A Very She & Him Christmas or just go watch Elf, the choice is yours!
