North Mississippi Allstars taking a dream tour
The NMA was recently forced to cancel several their performances in July due to having gotten an even better opportunity: touring in Europe with Robert Plant and the Band of Joy. Their stops with the Band will include Russia, Ukraine and Germany among others. It is not entirely surprising that Plant, formerly the lead singer for Led Zeppelin, would choose the NMA to play with the Band of Joy since much of Led Zeppelin’s music, which rocketed him to success, was inspired by Delta Blues as well as the blues in general. Blues artists that Zeppelin paid tribute to in their songs include Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon and, most obviously, Roy Harper. Going back to Delta Blues, it has been written that Led Zeppelin’s success as a band was due to them selling their souls to the devil at the infamous crossroads where Delta Blues pioneer Robert Johnson (another inspiration for LZ) is rumored to have done so.
