Newport Rewind: Brandi Carlile

Brandi Carlile played the first big set of the Newport Folk Festival on Saturday’s Main Stage. For such a tiny person, her big voice

was quite a draw to thousands of fans who sang along to her energy-packed set. Dismayed at the audience’s low-key viewing attitude, though, Carlile exclaimed, “Wow, this is the calmest crowd I’ve ever seen at a festival.”

But with an exciting cover of “Folsom Prison Blues” near the end of her set, she eventually got the crowd on their feet.
